Your teeth have roots and inside your teeth, there are a number of blood or nerve is placed under the outer layer of enamel known as pulp or dental pulp. Pulp is situated inside a space known as pulp chamber which extends downwards to the roots. The roots with the pulp chamber is known as the root canal. When the infection or inflammation goes deep inside your teeth and the teeth are damaged. The damaged & infected tooth gives pain, sensitivity to hot/cold/ sweet food. The root canal treatment is to remove the dead pulp and infected area from inside a tooth and then a place is filled up with material and crown. This can prevent further infection of the tooth. Root canel treatment is also known as endodontics.
